A Brief Theology of Sports

I’m currently working on a book project which aims to share some of what I’ve learned in a non-academic setting. In the course of doing so, I have found that many, many people have some form of this concept tucked away in their head or gathered into their heart (or blog).

One of the first things I think we learn in this life, and one of the earliest lessons in church, is that of the very basic image of the world.

We learn in scripture that the world will take care of you until you need it. If you have a home, your parents will see to it that you have shelter, clothing, food, and safety. If you have money, you will be provided for. If you are ill, the doctor will be called and care will be given. All these things are true of the world.

But after that, what happens to you is up to you. In other words, you will have to make the world and your personal life a living example of what it means to be a disciple of Jesus Christ, willing to let the world take care of you so that you can go out and make the world take care of you.

It’s a good thing to have your family, your friends, and your church there to help you out. But while they are there, they can’t take care of you. They can’t carry you on their shoulders. They can’t heal you. They can’t feed you or clothe you. They can’t give you a job or pay your bills. When the going gets tough in your own personal ข่าวกีฬา life, your family and your friends can’t carry you. You have to carry yourself.

The same is true of the world. It’s up to you to make the world take care of you. You can’t let it take care of you. You can’t let the world be your home. You have to make it your home.

This, of course, is the same for anything else you might care about. You will have to learn to cook for yourself, to do your own laundry, to fix your own car, and to find your own job and your own place. The world doesn’t do these things for you. You have to do them for yourself.

The Christian life is a life of making the world take care of you. It’s a life of making the world take care of your family and your friends. It’s a life of making the world take care of your church.

When we make the world take care of us, we’re being a good steward of what God has entrusted to us. We’re fulfilling the calling God has set before us as a stewardship. But we’re only stewards of what God has entrusted to us. We can’t live off of what God has entrusted to the world.
